Intro to Arbitrage Betting |
What is arbitrage betting? An arb or surebet is when you bet on fighter with one bookmaker and the other fighter with a different bookmaker at different odds, ending up with a guaranteed profit.
How the arbitrage alert system works: The system is currently only checking UK bookmakers that can be found on oddschecker.com's MMA page. You will receive an email notification whenever an arb is available, listing the ROI% for an even profit and also how much to bet if you want A / B to win but with a break-even cover bet on their opponent. All of which is also summarised on this page (See e.g. below).
What sort of profit can you make? Generally you're looking at around the 2.5% ROI mark for even profit on each outcome, on a decent arb. However, you can get 15%+ occasionally. Also, if you have a lean one way or another, you can choose your bet amounts to give e.g. a 5% profit if your pick wins and break even if they lose.
How many arbs are there? A lot. You can see a summary of the arbs since the system started below. As lines change they pop up all the time but as this is brand new, I can't give an accurate number yet. Put it this way - you can probably get back the 6 months signup fee from one event and you'll get 30+ events per 6 months.
Are there any risks? A few of the smaller bookmakers might limit your account if they think you have been arbing, so you are safer doing it on a bookmaker where you already bet. Stan James tend to be very slow updating their lines and I've personally had an account limited with them fairly quickly doing this, so just be aware that it can happen. You can of course just sign up again under a friend or family member's name :) I personally just round up the bet numbers suggested to a nice round number and bet a similar amount to what I bet as a regular bet.
